Q:  Is there anything I have to buy, or will Vonage provide everything I will need for their service?

A: With Vonage World there are no set-up fees, shipping or equipment costs.  Vonage will send you the phone adapter you need to use the service.  You just need to provide a touch tone phone and a high speed internet connection.  The phone can be cordless or corded, just as long as it’s touch-tone.  Rotary dial phones won’t work with Vonage.

Q:  I need Vonage to ring to both my upstairs phone and downstairs phone.  How can I do this?

A: It’s easy to set up multiple phones for a single Vonage line. This comes in very handy for situations like the one you describe, where you’d like to have several phones throughout the house.  There are a couple different way to do this, but the simplest is to use a cordless phone system.

All you need to do is buy a cordless phone system with a base unit and extra handsets.  The base unit plugs directly into the Vonage Phone Adapter (which is free, and part of the service).  The extra handsets can be put anywhere you want in the house.  If you already have a cordless phone, most systems allow you to purchase additional handsets separately.

Q:  I use AT&T for both phone service and internet service with the black DSL box. I would like to keep the internet but want to cancel my phone service.  If I did this, would Vonage work for me?

A: You don’t need AT&T phone service to be able to use Vonage World, as Vonage will be a replacement phone service.  However, you will need some sort of high-speed internet connection, and the DSL service you have right now qualifies.  You can either choose to continue your AT&T internet service or move to another carrier.  Vonage does not offer internet service at this time.

Q:  Is Vonage is available in all areas?  Also, we have an ADT companion service;  will Vonage work with it?

A: Vonage is available throughout the entire United States and Puerto Rico.  The only caveat is that you need to have an actual physical mailing address because Vonage has to mail you the Phone Adapter for the service to work.  Vonage does not ship to P.O. That being said, since Vonage is a VoIP service it will pretty much work anywhere with electricity, a high-speed internet connection and a touch tone phone.  You can have the Phone Adapter shipped to a mailing address and then take it with you wherever these 3 things exists to save money on calls.  You can even mail it to someone in another country so they can save money too.

We aren’t experts on the ADT companion service, but it doesn’t seem to need a phone line to operate.  This means that your phone service shouldn’t affect it’s operation, but you need to check with ADT to confirm that.

Q:  With Vonage World, can I make unlimited calls to India or there is a time limit?

A: Good news!  Vonage World lets you make unlimited calls to the US, Canada and 60+ countries, including India.  There is no time limit, so you can talk as much as you want and not worry about paying extra because it’s all included.  You can make calls to both land lines and mobile phones in India as part of this plan.  Right now Vonage World is only $14.99/month for the first 6 months, and then $24.99/month.

A small side note is that for India you can make free, unlimited calls to both landlines and mobile phones, but for some other countries you may only make free calls to landlines.  Check the countries list for details on the countries you want to call.
