Can I still use a fax machine with Vonage?

The following is an actual user submitted question:

Q:  Can I still use a fax machine with Vonage?

A: Yes, you can still use your fax machine with Vonage.  If you sign up for a residential plan, such as Vonage World or Vonage Lite, you’ll be using a single phone line for making calls and receiving/sending faxes.  This will work the same way it does with a traditional phone line that has both a fax and phone on it.  When you’re talking on the phone you won’t be able to send or receive faxes.  When you’re sending or receive faxes you won’t be able to make or receive calls.  This works fine for most people, especially if you only fax occassionally.

If you need your fax and/or phone line available 24/7, there are a couple of options.  When you sign up for a residential plan like Vonage World, you can add a dedicated fax line for only $9.99/month.  You’ll get 250 minutes of outgoing faxes plus unlimited incoming faxes.  Or, if you need the fax for business purposes you might want to consider one of Vonage’s business plans.  The Small Business Premium plan includes a free dedicated fax line with unlimited incoming minutes and 500 outgoing minutes a month.

It’s important to note that with Vonage Lite, any outbound faxing (and calling) will be counted towards your 200 minutes per month limit.  After this limit, additional minutes will be charged 5 cents per minute.  You do have unlimited incoming calls/faxes though.  With Vonage World, you can fax (and talk) to your heart’s content because it includes unlimited free calling.
