A:  Vonage can absolutely dial and call cell phone numbers just like a regular phone would.  The costs depend upon which plan you choose and where you are calling.  The U.S. & Canada Unlimited plan includes unlimited¹ local & long distance calling to both mobile and land line phones in the U.S. & Canada.  If you’re planning to call internationally, take a look at the Vonage World and Vonage World Plus 1000 Plans.  They allow unlimited¹ calling to mobile phones in certain countries.  You can see which countries include mobile phones by looking at the bottom of each of the product pages on this site.

A: Yes, Vonage can assign you a phone number if you don’t already have one.  In fact, during the sign up process, Vonage actually lets you choose a phone number from the area codes and numbers Vonage has available.  To get a new number, you just indicate which state you’d like your phone number to be associated with.  Then the area codes for that state are then displayed.  Once you select an area code and city, the available numbers for that combination are shown on screen.  It’s very easy and intuitive, and you’ll be given several different phone numbers to choose from.

A. This depends on which Vonage plan you sign up for and where you will be calling.  With the U.S. & Canada Unlimited plan, you’ll enjoy unlimited¹ outbound local & long distance calling in the U.S, Canada and Puerto Rico to both land lines and mobile phones.  However, if you call outside these boundaries you will be charged by the minute.  If you plan to call internationally, consider Vonage World which includes unlimited¹ calling to 60+ countries and calling across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

A: Absolutely not.  Vonage operates independently from your computer, so whether it is on or not doesn’t affect Vonage service. You use Vonage just like you would a regular phone service–pick up the phone and dial.  The people you’re calling won’t notice a difference between Vonage and a typical landline connection.
